FAQs

What’s the difference between Softcup and Flex Cup?

Both Softcup and Flex Cup are menstrual cups: A reusable period product that is worn in the vaginal canal and collects your flow (rather than absorbing it, like a tampon would).

Flex Cup is our original period cup, designed with a patented pull-tab that breaks the seal for you during removal. This makes removing Flex Cup as easy as pulling a tampon string. Flex Cup is priced at $34.99 and is available in two sizes: Size 01 and Size 02. Both sizes are offered in stain-resistant black silicone.

Softcup is a period cup with a more traditional design. Unlike Flex Cup, Softcup does not feature a patented pull-tab. Instead, Softcup has a textured stem designed to make it easy to locate your cup and manually break the seal (by squeezing the cup’s base) before removing. Softcup offers a V-shaped design that conforms to the shape of the vaginal canal to maximize comfort.

Softcup is priced at $24.99 and is also available in two sizes: Size 1, in teal, and Size 2, in pink.

Softcup and Flex Cup are made with 100% medical-grade silicone and, with proper care, will last for years. Both period cups can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time.

What about “Softcup,” the menstrual disc? We’re glad you asked! “Instead Softcup” was the original name for our disposable period disc, Softdisc, before the company was acquired by Flex. Both Softdisc and Softcup (now a menstrual cup) are now a part of the Flex family of brands. Learn more about Flex Disc vs. Softdisc here

Which Softcup size is right for me?

Choosing the right menstrual size for your body may take some trial and error, but we’re here to help get you through it. Softcup is available in two sizes: Size 1 and Size 2.

If you’re a first-time cup user, we recommend starting with Softcup Size 1. If you’re a seasoned period cup pro, or if you’ve given birth vaginally 2+ times, we recommend Softcup Size 2. For most people, either size will work. It really comes down to choosing the best fit for your comfort and capacity needs.

Here’s a breakdown of each cup’s dimensions:

  • Size 1: 46mm long, 43mm diameter (teal silicone)

  • Size 2: 53mm long, 46mm diameter (pink silicone)

How long will my Softcup last?

With proper care, Softcup can last for years—so it’s better for your wallet and the planet. Most long-term cup users choose to replace their cup every two to three years, but it all depends on how well you clean and maintain your cup. Refer to our menstrual cup cleaning instructions to learn how to care for your silicone period cup and extend its lifespan.

If your cup is showing any signs of deterioration, such as powder or film on the cup, severe discoloration, persistent odor, etc., that means it is time to replace.

As a reminder, do not use Softcup if you have a yeast or bacterial infection. Resume use only once the infection has completely cleared. If Softcup was inserted during a yeast or bacterial infection, remove it immediately and dispose of it in the trash.

I have a heavy period—will Softcup work for me?

We designed Softcup in two sizes that can accommodate any flow—even the heaviest of periods! Softcup Size 1 holds as much as two super tampons, and Size 2 holds as much as three super tampons. Plus, you can wear Softcup for up to 12 hours at a time.
