I have used tampons plus backup pads for most of my life due to my super heavy flow and horrible debilitating periods plus endometriosis. When I first discovered Flex discs I was skeptical that it would be any better than what I was used to. I WAS WRONG! These things are a game changer: I can swim, I can work long shifts, I can do whatever I want while wearing one and the only thing that happens when my flow is at its heaviest is a bit of auto-dumping when I go to the bathroom. If the disc becomes too full, the seal is broken by the force of the pelvic muscles during urination. However, when that happens all I have to do is (with clean hands) push it back into place. They have given me back my freedom. Also, I have never given birth (as is recommended before you use certain kinds or sizes menstrual cups) and these are very easy for me to insert.
Unfortunately, using flex discs did not lessen the severity of my cramps, but that was not the reason I switched to them and I wasn’t too disappointed because I know my cramps and period pain are extremely severe. So that wasn't a dealbreaker.
A word of advise: if you have to poop, wash your hands before going to the toilet and remove the disc FIRST, empty your bowels, wash your hands again THOROUGHLY, and then insert a new disc. In my personal experience, it’s very difficult to insert the disc when you are about to poop because there’s less space in the vagina when the rectum is full.
The only people I wouldn’t recommend these…
