I have always had super heavy periods. I didn’t understand why until I had surgery in my 20s and found I had endometriosis and adenomyosis. For more than 10 years, (I was 13 and now I’m 26), I would use super tampons the first four days and I would go through 1.5 to two boxes every month (I would use about 50 to 70 tampons every period….seriously). I also had to pair this with Always Pure Cotton Flex Foam pads with wings since they always leaked through… mind you I was changing them every two to three hours (every 3 to 4 hours at night).
I started using menstrual cups (the saalt cup) in 2022 but they were always difficult to remove and I was a bit concerned about micro plastics. In 2023, I decided to look into to menstrual discs after a saalt cup got too high and got stuck which was a really scary experience. I started with saalt disc and used it for about a year and then in 2024 I decided to try flex plant+ disc disposable ones and I’m so grateful I did.
I found these bamboo derived discs in 2024 and they’re an absolute life changer! I only have to go through one a month pack and sometimes I have some left over! I love that you actually get to use them for 12 hours. I personally like to rinse them out when I empty it which is very easy. They help me not stain my underwear/pants AND they actually reduce my pain, which did not expect. My pain, abdominal cramping, etc. has significantly gone down. I also like how it empties itself when you pee. I still get nervous to laugh too…
