Scared to Try FLEX? Read This First

Do you remember the first time you tried to use a tampon? I say “tried” because in all likelihood, you didn’t get it right the first time. I know I didn’t. It took me probably a good 6 months before I felt even remotely comfortable with wearing a tampon.

“Did I put this in right? Is it going to leak? Will it get stuck? How will I get this thing out? Will I get blood everywhere?” All of these questions that I had when I first used a tampon came rushing back to me the first time I tried FLEX.

FLEX was new, it was different. I didn’t love it the first time. But now, a year later, I can’t imagine ever using anything else.

My first couple times using FLEX I saw that it had leaked, and asked Lauren (our CEO)  if she had any tips. I realized from talking to her that I had not fully “tucked” the rim up behind my pubic bone, and that blood in the toilet when I peed was perfectly normal.

To be honest, I had never even heard of a pubic bone before, but after that advice and a bit of trial and error, I was able to successfully tuck FLEX properly, and bam: no leaks!  I had to try about five times before I felt 99% confident that I had inserted FLEX correctly, and that I wasn’t going to have an “incident.”

Trying something so new and intimate for the first time can be intimidating, and a lot of women need to take a few times before they get it. For me, it was worth making the switch because FLEX was just so comfortable. Actually, most women experience a dramatic increase in their level of comfort during their period after switching to FLEX.

We surveyed over 400 women who use FLEX about their period. Before using FLEX, only 16% of women said their period week was “just like any other week,” whereas 76% of women said their week was uncomfortable in some way.

After switching to FLEX, 68% said that their period week felt like every other week. (!!!) That means that 52% of women saw a significant improvement in comfort during their period by switching to FLEX.

If you are having trouble using FLEX, we have real humans available to speak with you so you can reach out and ask for help whenever you need it. Similar to when you first learned to use a tampon, we think of ourselves as your friend on the other side of the bathroom door.

Most women tell us it takes about a full cycle (8 FLEX) before they feel really confident in using FLEX as a replacement to tampons.

Most importantly, don’t feel bad if you can’t get it. There is no shame in not being able to use FLEX. Just like pads, tampons and cups, some women just have a product that works better for them. It’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable and helps you love your body the most.

Don’t worry though. You’ve got this!
